VDA wins prize for innovation at Wood Awards 2024
Competing among some remarkable design projects at the Wood Award Ireland 2024 on Tuesday night, van Dijk Architects were delighted to scoop the Wood Award for Innovation for Junction 20 – van Dijk Architects
This project has become an iconic landmark along the M1 with its striking timber frame canopy. As champions of innovative timber project design, VDA chose sustainably-sourced Douglas fir timber rather than traditional steel to make the Glulam tree supports and CLT deck which are highly safe, ensuring the beams do not bend and buckle like steel in a fire.
Our win follows on from our previous success at the Wood Awards in 2023, where van Dijk Architects’ highly acclaimed ‘Beyond the Trees’, Avondale House won two awards for Innovation and the Large Scale Public Building Award.
The Wood Awards Ireland 2024 are organised by Forest Industries Ireland in association with The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.
