We were appointed by GMIT in the redesign and extension to their iHub facility. Located on a prominent site at the edge of campus, our design proposes a strong gateway building to address this boundary. The building is formed through moves relating to the context around it. We have taken the pedestrian entrance through the building to enhance your experience on arrival. The bulk of the building is broken down by twisting the mass to sit within the surrounding context. We have pushed and pulled the rooms to create solar shading and reduce the cooling loads needed in summer on the main, south-facing facade. We are aiming to make a building which is distinctive and representative of the innovative practices taking place within. The project is currently awaiting a planning decision from Galway County Council.
