The Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme extends treated water to two principal supply areas from Lough Mask namely the Castlebar area and the south and east of the county.

Stage 1, which commenced in 1979, consisted of an intake works and pumping station at Tourmakeady, with an arterial main to Partry and Castlebar. Stage 2, Contract No.1 involved extending the arterial main from Partry to Ballinrobe with storage towers provided at Ballinrobe under Contract No.2. Stage 2, Contract No.6 involved the further extension from Ballinrobe to Claremorris, consisting of over 31km of pipelines. Stage 3, which began construction in 2001 provides for extensions to knock and Ballyhaunis.
