James Joyce Bridge is a 40m span bridge which is located at the junction of Blackhall Place and the River Liffey Quays, linking Ellis Quay on the north to Ushers' Island on the south of the river.
The bridge follows the general theme of arch bridges across the Liffey incorporating a pair of striking tied steel arches from which the deck is suspended by high tensile steel hangers. The arches are inclined outwards and are curved in plan, providing a very modern expression of the familiar arch form. The bridge carries four lanes of traffic, has glass footpaths and incorporates striking architectural lighting. Both abutments are integrated into the existing river walls and are subject to tidal variations in groundwater levels.
