Drogheda is the second largest town in County Louth, Ireland. Its recently acquired role as a commuter town has resulted in rapid population growth and expansion of the town and its environs.

Drogheda Main Drainage and Wastewater Disposal Scheme has improved the water quality of the River Boyne to comply with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and allowing more potential for development on its shores.

The Scheme, consisting of a collection system and treatment plant, involved the construction of interceptor sewers on both sides of the River Boyne.
