Design policy

For many architects one project is much the same as the next. The work of particular architects is highly recognisable as they use the same format for solving many different site programme conditions. The work of Van Dijk International however, is characterised by diversity, which is clearly a result of their responsiveness to the requirements of both client and site. The building is strong statement but defer to their context.

Although a split between the taste preferences of the architectural world insiders and those of building clients is often unavoidable, the practice has never accepted the notion that architects ideas should necessarily collide with prevailing tastes.

The practice is particularly proud of such projects as Wogan Interiors where a large 46,000 sq, ft building was developed in a highly visible and sensitive location within the core of a medieval town, while the building is modern in style the rhythms and lines of it's facades echo the historic patterns of the town. This has resulted in the building being popular with the Architectural press as well as local people.

Projects by Van Dijk International manage to reconcile many conflicting demands placed upon them. They merge the personal and intuitive with the systematic and the public. While the buildings are novel, the care in organisational design and the reflection of that are built from means that people take little time to understand the underlying spatial order. This results in people being comfortable with the buildings in a very natural and subliminal way.

In summary, all of our work and efforts are directed at producing buildings and environments that everyone can enjoy and be proud of.
